Ford Warriors in Pink: a lesson in courage

“The biggest thing I’ve learned: I am not alone.”

Breast cancer.

Those two words cause a chill to go through my blood.

At the age of 30, with a husband and two young children, I try to push any and all breast cancer thoughts to the very back of my brain. My large extended family has been incredibly blessed thus far~ none of us are fighting this disease at this point in time.

But it’s still there. And it’s touching people we know in our neighborhoods and our communities. People from church and preschool and our hometowns.

And it’s up to us to show support. To give strength. And to help find a cure.

“We’re warriors~ the kind that hug and wear pink.”

That’s why I’m honored today to share the Ford Warriors in Pink program with you.

Ford Warriors in Pink honors the strength and courage of breast cancer survivors with its “Models of Courage” program. These 11 men &  women have been chosen as role models, leaders and supporters of the difficult fight against breast cancer.

They’ve been through it and they know what it takes to survive~ and they want to share that story with us. For more information on the inspirational Models of Courage, heck out the excellent documentary “Bang the Drum: Living Out Loud in the Face of Breast Cancer.”

This video, these stories of courage and survival, of friendship and faith, has touched my soul.

Also? It will soon be touching my closet as well. Ford has created cute, stylish Warriors in Pink apparel as a way to show support to all of the men & women facing the difficult battle against breast cancer.

You can take a look at all of the apparel on FordCares.com~ my personal favorite {ahem, Hubs, I hope you are paying attention for Christmas!} is the pink Sister Hoodie {$45}.

Love the look~ and I love what it stands for.

Ford donates 100% of the net proceeds go to support breast cancer awareness~ all.year.long. And you can even choose where your apparel purchase funds will go~ Susan G. Komen, Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, Young Survivor Coalition or The Pink Fund. Ford is truly committed to making a difference in this battle.

“The goal is eliminating breast cancer. As a group, as an army, as a team~ we will do it. We WILL do it.”

I’m realistic: I know that in the large, amazing circle of ladies in my life~ sisters, mother, mother-in-law, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, friends~ there will come a time when the battle cry will need to be raised. When we’ll need to pull together to provide love and support, strength & prayers for one of us.

And until that day, I’m going to keep supporting those going through this journey, this battle, right now. I’m going to keep pushing our world and supporting the foundations that are determined to find a cure.

And I’m going to keep hoping and praying that one day, breast cancer will be gone, once and for all.

Counting My Kisses: I feel honored to be a part of the Ford Warriors in Pink program. I greatly admire the 11 Models of Courage, and I love that Ford chose breast cancer survivors to showcase their apparel line, as well as to reach out & support those battling this disease. The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I’m so happy to be a part of such a worthwhile cause.

This October, Ford Warriors in Pink® has launched its first ever produced documentary, “Bang the Drum: Living Out Loud in the Face of Breast Cancer.” The film honors 11 men and women breast cancer survivors who have demonstrated strength and courage in their battle with its “Models of Courage” program. 2012 marks Ford Motor Company’s 18th year of support for the breast cancer cause. In that time, Ford has dedicated more than $115 million to the breast cancer cause.

You too can get involved in this tremendously worthy program! When you buy apparel from Ford Warriors in Pink100 percent of the net proceeds go directly to support breast cancer awareness all year long.
