5 reasons I’m WAY cooler than my younger self {listable life}

Happy Tuesday!

And happy Listable Life day! I’m linking up with Nicole at Moments that Define Life and Sharon at Mom of 6 to chat about life in listable form.

Let’s get started, shall we?

5 reasons I’m WAY cooler than my younger self

1. I have the cutest accessories in town

Back in the day, my younger self used to get great joy from accessorizing. The cute flats, trendy purses, chunky necklaces~ it all was such a fun way to express myself & my style.

These days? I have the cutest accessories in town. Little O & H-Berry start more conversations in public than my cute shoes or purses ever did. They get extra bonus points for their contagious giggles, too.

Love!

2. I’m cool being me

I’ve always felt like there is a certain grace exhibited by people who are comfortable with themselves. It just sort of oozes out of them, you know?

I’m really happy being me. I’ve worked hard to get to this point in my life, and I couldn’t be prouder at all that I’ve accomplished~ our little family being at the top of that list, of course.

I’m also working hard to project a positive self-image to our young daughters.

I want them to learn by their momma’s example that being happy & comfortable with yourself is something that starts within.

3. I’m in love with my best friend

He’s sweet & handsome & smart. He calms down my {sometimes irrational} fears and makes me laugh every.single.day. And no matter how long his day has been, when he comes through that door every night, he has a smile on his face, a kiss for me and big squeezy hugs for the girls.

He’s my partner in crime, my better half, my very best friend. I laugh with him, cry with him…and I can’t imagine one day of my life without him. Being married to him & growing our little family has been the best thing I’ve ever done.

The Hubs & I have had our fair share of cool days together, but I wouldn’t trade the here & now for anything!

4. I have a sweet ride

Gone are the days of zipping around in my little Toyota Corolla {the Hubs now zips to work in it…lol}. Now I drive a Honda CRV with two children in gigantic Britax carseats in the back, plus all of the dolls/books/stray Cheerios you could ever hope to find. And the occasional dog.

I love my CRV. But truth be told, it’s getting a little cramped and I’m finding myself longing for something that I thought I’d never want: a minivan.

That’s right, friends. Bring on the mini with it’s automatic sliding doors & built-in TV with DVD player & two captains chairs far enough apart that my children can’t annoy each other {easily}.

I think my minivan love is a testament to how much I’ve grown as a person over the years. It’s on the agenda for 2013, and I couldn’t be more excited. Bring on the swagger wagon, my friends. I’m ready to rock it.

5. I’m following~ and living~ my dreams

Being young comes with so much hope, so much uncertainty. Dreams that you aren’t quite sure how to make happen. That’s part of the fun in being young~ the world is at your feet, waiting for you to give it your best shot.

These days, I’m living so many of my dreams. Being a mother, a wife, a writer. Shaping little lives so that they are strong & independent enough to take on the world when it’s their turn.

I turned 30 this year, and I wrote about how it’s a pretty cool feeling to be at this point in life and to say yes. Yes, it was a ton of work to get to this point, but wow, I’m so happy I’m here. So happy to be surrounded by my sweet little family, my wonderful big family, amazing friends & a wonderful community, both in our town & online.

Love love love.

Counting My Kisses: I love how Listable Life always gets me thinking! It’s both fun & humbling to think about how far I’ve come since my teenage years~ the years when being cool actually did matter. I wish I could tell my 15 and 20-year-old selves to relax & keep working hard at those dreams~ turns out hard work really does pay off, just like our parents taught us.

Mimi

Okay Miss Ams ~~~ wonderful post. I am way cooler than my younger self as I am now a Mimi (aka grandmother), and as much fun as it is to be a mom, it is a million times cooler to be a grandmother. Beleive me, you get all the fun, and zero of the work and responsibilities. Enjoy these days == they go waaaaay too fast.

It is noteworthy that you guys got a great picture of all four of you smiling!!! Super!!!

Amy- this is such a beautiful post! I am especially touched by #2 when you say that you are “happy with being me”. I think as women we can all be really hard on ourselves at times… and being comfortable in your own skin and happy with yourself is often hard-earned.

And I adore your current accessories! They are adorable! :)

Thanks Mommers! I’m so glad you feel even cooler as a Mimi, I’m excited for that journey as well {MANY years from now!}. We are enjoying every second of these super fun, super busy, super crazy days! Love it & I love you!

Thanks Sharon! You are very right, it’s so easy to be hard on ourselves as women. I try to remind myself to be kinder to myself & more comfortable with myself to set an example for my girls.

And I’m glad you like my accessories…they are pretty darn cute, no? :) Thanks for another great linkup! :)
