Soccer girl

This is the face of a happy, happy girl.

A little girl who is so proud of herself for starting soccer this week.

A little girl who was beaming with excitement as I gently tugged her purple team t-shirt over her head.

“What’s my team name again, Mommy?” she whispered in my ear.

“The Hummingbirds, sweetie,” I whispered back.

I was rewarded with a 2,000-watt smile as she jetted off to the field.

She was ready to play.

However, as the Hubs & I quickly learned, she was ready to play Little O’s version of soccer.

Which included running over to the parents on the sideline and saying, “Hi! I’m O. Do you like my pretty purple shirt?”

It also included wearing the goalie net.

Running onto the 5 & 6-year-old’s field {the Hubs had to retrieve her for that one}.

General confusion over who was on her team/what goal to shoot at/where the ball was most of the time.

And let’s not forget laying down in the middle of the field or asking me to hold the flowers she had just picked.

But really? She’s 3.

Expecting anything more would be just silly of us.

And just like with anything, there were moments of sheer awesomeness:

Like the look on Little O’s face when she gave the ball a powerful kick.

And the following of directions~ from someone other than the Hubs & I.

The watchful & adoring eyes of Baby H {who really wanted to get out on that field too!}.

The loud & rowdy GO HUMMINGBIRDS!!! cheer at the end of the game.

And of course, the flushed excitement of our soccer girl…

Who just so happened to round out a great day with a family trip to the ice cream stand.

Because just like my mom did in my soccer days, I’m firmly in the camp that win or lose, good sports get rewarded with ice cream.

An excellent life strategy to live by, don’t you think?

And a tasty one, too.

Counting My Kisses: Even though we had a few hiccups along the way, the Hubs & I deemed Little O’s first night of soccer a success. The criteria? No tears~ plus she had lots & lots of fun. I’m so thankful Little O has a chance to start learning about teamwork…I can’t wait to see how she settles into the game over the next few weeks!

Yah Little O!! So proud of you to be such a big girl and try something new! You will love soccer and all the new friends you will meet! You know where to come when you need any soccer tips :)

She is beautiful! You must be so proud. I remember when my baby played soccer. She was older than that by quite a bit, but it was still really cool. Now she is graduating. I love that you are capturing these wonderful memories.

YAY Little O!!! Just like Little O, I preferred to make clover chains out of the flowers in the field for a while before I really get into soccer!! What a fun sport for the whole fam!!

Papa

I remember one little girl stopping in the middle of her soccer games to fix her pig tales / pony tail. Someone was more interested in her hair style than the soccer ball. I hope Olivia cares more about soccer than her hair, time will tell. Love Dad

Thanks Auntie Jen! :) Next time we’re together Little O wants to run soccer drills with you. The Hubs & I think she should learn from the best! :)

Oh Dad~ you are so right! Making sure my hair looked ok was my top soccer priority for sure. We’ll see if Little O feels the same way, you are right, time will tell! :)
