Small steps

Hello, friends!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Ours was full of gorgeous weather and smiley kiddos. And basketball. Lots & lots of basketball {my bracket is a hot mess, but I have to say, I love those upsets!}.

Baby H thoroughly enjoyed the 75+ degree weather on Saturday. She insisted on holding The Hubs’ hand while steering her car, which was just about the sweetest thing ever.

Baby H was also super excited to be practicing walking with her daddy.

At almost 14 months, we’re a little surprised that our Dozer girl isn’t full-out walking yet, but we know she’ll do it when she’s ready. A few solo steps here & there are tiding her over for the time being.

Small steps, right?

As I mentioned on Friday, we also had a BIG change in store for Little O this weekend. No more crib for our eldest daughter~ the time had come to make the move into a toddler bed.

After naptime on Saturday, the Hubs went to work on Little O’s bed. She excitedly watched and “helped Daddy” {aka jumped up & down with excitement}.

As soon as the Hubs was finished, she climbed right in to check it out.

And of course, she needed to be tucked in for a dry run.

She loved it!

So much, in fact, that we had a hard time getting her to come downstairs for dinner.

But the final test still remained…bedtime.

After a fun night of playing, as well as a bath, a book, prayers, tooth-brushing & hair-combing, Little O was finally ready for bed.

We watched her proudly climb into her bed.

We tucked her in. Got her one more drink of water. Blew a million kisses from the doorway.

Called out “Goodnight! Sweet dreams!” in our softest voices as we closed the door.

And…

sobs.

Sigh.

It took about 40 minutes for Little O to calm down & fall asleep. The bright side? She didn’t get out of bed once, which the Hubs & I deem a huge victory.

But it was clear that Little O wasn’t sure how she felt in the toddler bed once the lights went off~ the Hubs wisely pointed out that she probably didn’t feel as “safe” as she did all curled up in her crib. We each took a turn soothing her & then decided to give it the gift of time.

Before too long, Little O was fast asleep for the night {although those 40 minutes of sobbing were torture for everyone!}.

Small steps.

We didn’t hear a peep from her until 8 a.m., and when we checked on her she still hadn’t gotten out of bed.

She had, however, moved to the bottom of her bed so she could reach the basket of books we had left once she fell asleep. Her “big girl bed surprise.” She was delighted

The Hubs & I are delighted, too. It hasn’t been a seamless transition~ Sunday’s nap & bedtime both induced tears, although only 20 minutes of crying at nap and 5 minutes at bed~ but we are making small steps towards success here.

We’ll take it!

And Baby H wants you to know that she slept great, too.

Hope you made small steps towards a goal of yours this weekend~ or maybe just relaxed & had fun!

Counting My Kisses: It was a BIG weekend of small steps for our little family! We’re so proud of Little O for rocking the toddler bed transition. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it continues to go well~ and especially that she continues to stay in bed. We have a fun week ahead, make sure to swing by each day so you don’t miss a thing!

Have a great one!

I worry about the transition from crib to bed and I really enjoyed your post about it. The basket of books to wake up to is such a nice idea.

Julia, I worried about the crib to bed transition FOREVER before we finally made the leap! I’m going to be writing another post in the next week or two with suggestions on how to make the transition easier, but the book basket was HUGE for us. It has kept Little O happily in bed, which is great! :)

Glad to see you are enjoying the beautiful weather, too. Such a cute taking those steps!
Big girl bed – sigh. Seems like just yesterday we moved my little one into a big girl bed. Now she is 4.
