The Pet Peeves List {Listable Life}

No flu this week, so I’m ready to rock on today’s Listable Life linkup with Moments that Define Life!

Today’s Listable Life topic?

5 Pet Peeves

Here we go!

1. Grammatically incorrect ANYTHING.

I correct billboards in my head. Newspaper ads. Baby shower invites. Books while I’m reading them. The fine print on commercials. Christmas card letters. The list goes on and on and on…

It’s a sickness, really.

But incorrect grammar drives me crazy. I’m far from perfect with typos, both in life and on this blog. But using the wrong version of your and you’re? Interchanging except/accept? Using “unnecessary” quotes? It’s nails on a chalkboard to my brain, baby.

2. Reruns.

Confession: I think Modern Family is one of the best shows on TV. It’s witty and hilarious and the characters are both relatable and awesome at the same time.

And yet, the Hubs & I rarely remember to watch it on Wednesday nights.

Without fail, the days that we do excitedly remember to turn it on at the right time, it’s the episode we watched the last time we remembered to turn it on a month & a half ago.

Boo.

And this happens so many times with so many shows…sometimes I feel like the TV gods are just messing with me.

3. The girls take the best naps for my husband.

It happens every.single.time I’m gone for the day or night. I’ll call to check in and my conversation with the Hubs goes something like this:

Me: Hey! How’s it going there?

Hubs: {yawning} Oh hey. Good!

Me: Great…how are the girls?

Hubs: {another yawn}: Awesome. They went down for their naps like champs and they’re still sleeping.

Me: Wow, really? They’re still sleeping?

Hubs: Yeah, they are taking awesome naps. I got about an hour of work done, got a great workout in and took a half-hour nap. They’ve been awesome.

Me: Ohh…that’s great.

Meanwhile, in my head I’m cursing the fact that the girls took horrible naps for me all week and then magically decided to pull it together when the Hubs took over.

Sigh.

4. When my children play IN their diapers.

This really doesn’t need an explanation. Baby H is just starting to grasp that her diaper can be removed with two simple pulls; however, I think we’re still golden until we’re in the warmer/less clothes months.

Little O, on the other hand…not so much.

She has been potty trained since October, but we still put a pull-up or diaper on her during naptime & bedtime. We’ve had less poop-ball incidents since the potty training; however, it has not been smooth sailing.

What is it with little ones wanting to take off their diaper and play with it? Especially the extremely messy diapers?!

Ugh. Just call for me, baby girls. I will come change you immediately. I promise.

5. Fluorescent light bulbs.

Let me preface this with the statement that I’m all about being green. And I love that these fluorescent light bulbs are so much better for the environment.

With that said…I harbor a not-so-secret hatred for the things.

I hate that when I flip on the bathroom light, it feels like the sun is rising. It starts out so dim and then within 30 seconds, I need sunglasses on to shield my eyes from the blazing light.

The Hubs is obsessed with these fluorescent bulbs. He’s methodically replacing each and every bulb in our house, in spite of  my protests. Apparently he even changed out a few while I was away for the weekend. Sneaky.

I barely turn on the overhead lights in the girls’ rooms, because the light is so unbelievably bright. Not exactly soothing lets-get-you-ready-for-bed lighting. More like it’s 9-am-on-the-Florida-coast-I-hope-you-have-sunscreen-on type of lighting. Super for winding down at night.

I’m all for saving the environment. But I beg of you, fluorescent light bulb makers, could you try a little harder to work on your “soft” lighting? This disgruntled momma would sure appreciate it.

What’s on your pet peeve list? Leave a comment, I can’t wait to hear it!

Counting My Kisses: Ahh…pet peeves. We all have them. My runner-up pet peeves include the girls not sleeping when they are exhausted, getting into a bed that hasn’t been made {weird, I know, but somehow I don’t sleep as well?!}, and my cell phone randomly deciding to not show me missed calls/texts. But, just as with everything in life, it’s important to look at the bright side as well. And if these are the worst of my pet peeves…well, then I’d say I really don’t have anything to complain about. Except for those light bulbs. They really drive me crazy.

#3. THANK YOU! The same thing happens at my house and it drives me batty! I often wonder if my husband is a wizard or has some other magical power that I am not aware of.

I agree with #5. We use them in our home, but I am not a big fan of the light they provide.

I am SO not looking forward to potty training! I’m holding off for a bit longer. The girls are behind in development, so I’m going with mid-twos before I even begin to think about it. And the nap thing with the husband happens every time! So frustrating.

I’m TOTALLY guilty of #1 – please don’t blacklist me. I don’t do it on purpose because it drives me nuts too. In fact, I am guilty of editing my own posts throughout the day because of it. I blame Mommy brain.

The rerun thing made it to my pet peeve list too. While that whole behaving better for their father thing has always driven me nuts!!!!

Cait~ YES! It must be some super-secret husband powers that they have…it drives me absolutely insane. Lol! Thanks for stopping by! :)

Deana~ so happy to hear I’m in good company with that one. I’ll make sure to tell my husband that you’re not a fan either, he seems to think I’m the only one on earth bothered by the brightness. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Nicole~ God bless you for having to potty train two at the same time! I think waiting until the girls are a bit older is a great plan. :) So glad that I have someone else who does the grammar correcting…I try NOT to do it but I just can’t help it… :)

Janine~ yes! The rerun thing drives me nuts…but not as crazy as the girls acting perfect when the Hubs runs the show. Not that I want them to have a bad day EVER, but it would be nice if it happened on someone else’s watch once or twice. :) Thanks for stopping by!
